About

I pick up old cookbooks.  Not only do I pick up old cookbooks, I save them…Not only do I save old cookbooks, I often bring the recipes out to laugh at with my husband.  Occasionally, I may make something out of them.  But mostly, they are the anti-food porn.  Somehow, old recipes rarely look as appetizing as our Food Network, highly digitized counterparts.

I’m also a graduate student of Historic Preservation at the University of Vermont.  Mostly, that means preserving historic buildings, bridges, and railroad corridors, that kind of stuff.  But I propose that our food ephemera is worth preserving, as well.  The way we ate in the past reflects in the way we eat now.

But mostly, this is for fun.  I pick this stuff up–I can’t help it.  This blog will help me purge the Spam (the actual food product, not the cyber-nuisance)  out of my house–and into your psyche.  And occasionally, perhaps, onto your table.
